Dochula Pass

Dochula Pass is a mountain pass located on the road from Thimphu to Punakha in Bhutan. Situated at an elevation of around 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level, Dochula Pass is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including snow-capped peaks such as Gangkhar Puensum, which is the highest mountain in Bhutan.

One of the highlights of Dochula Pass is the Dochula Druk Wangyel Chortens, a cluster of 108 memorial chortens (stupas) built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty. These chortens were built under the command of the eldest queen mother, Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Indian insurgents in 2003.

The pass is not only a scenic spot but also a popular rest area for travelers journeying between Thimphu and Punakha. Visitors often stop here to enjoy the stunning views, take photographs, and explore the area.
