Buddha Dordenma

The Buddha Dordenma statue is a massive statue of Shakyamuni Buddha located in Bhutan. It stands atop a hill in the Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. This majestic statue is approximately 169 feet (51.5 meters) tall, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.

Construction of the Buddha Dordenma statue began in 2006 to commemorate the centennial of the Bhutanese monarchy, and it was completed in 2015. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold. Inside the statue, there are 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, also made of bronze and gilded, which are placed to radiate a sense of peace and harmony.

The Buddha Dordenma statue is not only a significant religious symbol for Bhutanese Buddhists but also a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to marvel at its grandeur and to soak in the spiritual ambiance of the surrounding area.
